Terms of sale for Os Sauna

Last updated: 11 September 2026

This is a translation for information. In case of any discrepancy, the Norwegian text applies.

1. The agreement

The agreement consists of these terms of sale, the information you receive in the booking system, and any separate terms we have agreed in writing. Where they conflict, what has been separately agreed applies, unless that conflicts with mandatory law. If one clause is invalid, the rest of the agreement still stands. The agreement is supplemented by the statutory rules governing sales between a consumer and a business, and between businesses.

2. The parties

The seller is Os Turnforening, organisation number 983 958 249, Idrettsvegen 41, 5210 Os, Norway. The club owns and runs Os Sauna, which sits at Steinneset at the far end of Os harbour in Osøyro. You can reach us at info@ossauna.no. In this agreement Os Turnforening is called the seller or we.

The buyer is the person or business making the booking, called the buyer or you. If you are a consumer, Norwegian consumer protection law applies in full. If you are a business, the rules on the right of withdrawal do not apply.

3. What we sell

We sell places in the floating sauna at Steinneset. The sauna is wood-fired and self-service. There is no host on site, and you light the stove yourself. You get in with a code on the code lock on the door, and you look after yourself from the moment you book until you lock up.

We run fixed sessions every day. The morning session, 08.00 on weekdays and 06.00 at weekends, lasts three hours, because the sauna is cold then and needs longer to warm up. The sessions later in the day last two hours. The heating-up time is part of the session.

Every session can be booked in two ways. A shared session is one place in a session you share with other guests, and the sauna has ten places. A private session is the whole sauna at a fixed price, for your group alone. If somebody books a private session, the shared session at that time falls away, and the other way round. The price differs between weekdays and weekends, and for private sessions also with the time of day. Firewood is included.

Private sessions are released several months ahead. Shared sessions are released a few weeks at a time. We also sell punch cards, subscriptions and gift cards. These are covered in clause 8. What each session costs, how long it lasts and which times are free are shown in the booking system before you pay.

4. Price

Prices are stated in Norwegian kroner and are the total you will pay, including all taxes and charges. If costs arise that were not stated when you booked, we will clarify them with you in writing before they are charged.

Firewood is included in the price of the session. Any other add-ons offered at checkout are optional, and you decide whether you want them.

5. Booking and payment

Booking and payment take place in the booking system provided by Periode. You pay when you book, and the agreement is binding once we have received your booking. Immediately after payment you receive a confirmation and the code for the lock by email.

The agreement is nonetheless not binding if there is a typing or keying error in the offer or in the booking, and the other party realised or ought to have realised that such an error had occurred.

6. Age limit

You must have turned 16 to book and to use the sauna on your own. If you are under 16, you must be accompanied by a person over 18 who takes responsibility for the session. If we discover that a minor has booked without such an adult, we may cancel the booking.

7. Access to the sauna

The code is valid only for your booked session. It is your own responsibility to check that you received the code after paying. If it does not arrive, check your junk mail first and then tell us straight away. We are not obliged to issue a code after the session has started.

The sauna is self-lit. It may be cold when you arrive, and it is you who lights it. The firewood is waiting in the chest in the changing room. Tidying up after use is part of it; see the house rules.

The sauna has a changing room, but no shower. You cool down in the sea, from the bathing ladder on the deck.

8. Cancellation and right of withdrawal

Sessions

A booked session is a leisure service with a fixed date and time. For such services there is no right of withdrawal, cf. section 22(m) of the Norwegian Right of Withdrawal Act. The booking is binding once you have paid and does not give a right to a refund. We may show goodwill in individual cases, but that gives you no entitlement.

You may move your session to another free time up to 24 hours before it starts. Closer to the session, the booking can no longer be moved.

Punch cards

One punch gives the right to book one place in one session. Punches are valid for two years from the date of purchase. As a consumer you have a 14-day right of withdrawal on the punch card itself as long as no punches have been used. If you have used one or more, the right of withdrawal falls away for the whole card. Punches not used within two years are not refunded.

Subscription

A subscription is a running agreement that gives you a fixed number of sessions each month. You may use the sessions for people other than yourself, but each extra person in a booking counts as one session.

As a consumer you have a 14-day right of withdrawal on the subscription itself from the day you entered into it. You may cancel the subscription at any time in the booking system. Cancellation takes effect from the next payment period, and we do not refund the period already paid for, or sessions you have not used. If we change the price or the terms, we will give you at least 30 days' notice, and the change does not apply retroactively.

Gift cards

If you buy a gift card, as a consumer you have a 14-day right of withdrawal from purchase as long as the gift card has not been used. The gift card is valid for three years from purchase, in line with the ordinary limitation period under the Norwegian Limitation Act, and cannot be exchanged for cash. Once the gift card has been used to book a session, the rules for sessions above apply.

9. Other goods

For goods sent to you, as a consumer you have a 14-day right of withdrawal from the day you received them. You cover the return cost unless we have agreed otherwise. We refund within 14 days of receiving notice that you are withdrawing, but may withhold payment until the goods have come back or you have documented that they were sent.

10. If the sauna is not available

The sauna sits exposed at the far end of the harbour. Bad weather, heavy seas, damage to the moorings or a technical fault may mean we have to close at short notice. If we have to cancel your session, you get your money back or a new time, whichever you prefer. We do not cover consequential costs such as travel or lost time. We never cancel a booked session simply to rent it out to somebody else.

If the sauna does not meet the standard we have agreed, or is not available at the booked time for reasons on our side, you may demand a new time or a proportionate price reduction. You must tell us within a reasonable time after you discovered, or ought to have discovered, the matter.

11. If you do not keep your side

If you do not pay, we may claim default interest under the Norwegian Late Payment Interest Act and fees under the Debt Collection Act, after notice.

If you use the sauna in breach of the house rules, serious or repeated breaches may lead us to terminate the agreement, ask you to leave, or bar you, and to claim compensation. Letting in people who have not paid counts as a serious breach.

You are liable for damage you or your guests cause to the sauna, the stove or the equipment. If you exceed the number of places you have booked, or let in more people than the private session was agreed for, we may claim compensation.

12. Safety and liability

We make sure the sauna, the stove and the moorings are technically sound and maintained, and that the instructions on site are up to date.

Health

You and your guests use the sauna at your own risk as regards your own health. High heat and cold seawater are a strain, and for some people they can be dangerous, for example with heart and circulatory disease, high blood pressure or pregnancy. Judge for yourselves whether you should bathe, and bathe sensibly.

Fire

The sauna has a wood-burning stove, and you light it yourself. Use firewood only, and follow the instructions posted in the sauna. Do not put wood on top of the stove, do not dry clothes on it, and never leave it with the door open. Pour only clean, fresh water on the stones.

The sea

The sauna floats, and the sea is right outside the door. You are responsible for making sure you bathe safely from the ladder and the deck, that children are supervised, and that nobody uses the sauna or swims under the influence.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that we cannot disclaim under mandatory law, including liability for personal injury caused by our negligence.

13. Personal data

We process your personal data as described in our privacy policy. Os Turnforening is the data controller.

14. Complaints and disputes

If you have a complaint, tell us at info@ossauna.no within a reasonable time and we will try to find a solution. If we cannot agree, you may bring the matter to the Norwegian Consumer Authority for mediation. You can reach them on +47 23 40 06 00 or at forbrukertilsynet.no. Other disputes are decided under Norwegian law.
